Philadelphia Museum of Art Fast-rising Philadelphia artists to be featured during Wyeth exhibition
Show Dates: March 28 through July 16 2006
For Immediate Release Philadelphia -- The work of two fast-rising local artists will be showcased at the Philadelphia Museum of Art during the highly anticipated Andrew Wyeth: Memory and Magic opening March 28.
The paintings of Rachel Constantine and the photography of Joshua Marowitz will be featured in Artworks Gallery's Museum Restaurant exhibition space, located inside the Museum, to compliment to the Wyeth exhibition. The Artworks Gallery is committed to showcasing the work of regional artists and supporting the local art community.
An award-winning painter whose style has been described as classical realist infused with impressionism, Rachel Constantine’s paintings share Wyeth’s sense of solitude and introspection. Her diverse subject matter is unified by her commitment to depicting truth as told through the fall of light, and her paintings radiate repose, balance and visual harmony.
I'm certain that Constantine will reach the status of a Bo Bartlett or Jamie Wyeth in the near future, says Sande Maslow, Director of Art Sales and Corporate Art at the Philadelphia Museum of Art.
Joshua Marowitz’s photographs are aesthetic objects derived from combining traditional methods of photography with contemporary techniques. For this exhibition, Marowitz presents rural landscapes through collaging photographs of trees and their unseen root system, creating a painterly sense of timelessness.
Since receiving his BFA in photography from the University of the Arts, Marowitz founded the Philadelphia Center for the Photographic Image, a non-profit photography studio and teaching facility designed to promote the photographic arts.
Marowitz's work is the tootsie roll in the tootsie pop, says Sande Maslow. His photography is the surprise after you see Wyeth.
The exhibition -- Andrew Wyeth: Memory and Magic -- is the largest exhibition of Wyeth's work to date and is expected to draw tens of thousands of visitors to the Philadelphia Museum of Art through July 2006.
