Rachel Constantine’s
painting style can be described as the classical realist tradition infused with elements of impressionism. Seeking qualities of repose, balance and visual harmony in her compositions, her diverse subject matter is unified by her commitment to depicting what is true as defined by the fall of light.
Born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, Constantine holds a certificate in painting from the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts.
She is the recipient of numerous awards, including three from the Woodmere Art Museum in Pennsylvania, one from the Allied Artists of America
in NYC, and most recently, a “Certificate of Excellence” from the Portrait Society of America 2009. Rachel was invited to exhibit in
Artworks Gallery at the Philadelphia Museum of Art as the local compliment to the Museum’s blockbuster exhibition: ‘Andrew Wyeth; Memory and Magic’. Her work can be found in The Vivian O. and Meyer P. Potamkin Collection in the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts, and is featured in the new hard-cover illustrated book Alla Prima: A contemporary Guide to Traditional Direct Painting, written by Al Gury, Chairman of the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Art’s painting department.
Rachel lives and works in downtown Philadelphia in between excursions across the Americas and Europe, always with her travel easel in tow.
